Welcome 2017-2018

August 2017

Dear Browns Mill Elementary Family:

Welcome to the 2017-2018 school year! This year Browns Mill will be fully departmentalized. Pre-Middle (grades 3-5) will be fully departmentalized by content area, while Early Literacy (grades K-2) will be partially departmentalized into two-teacher teams, in order to continue our charge of increasing our ability to meet the academic needs of our students, increase literacy and better prepare our upper level students for middle school.

As a staff, we will continue our focus on using an assessment protocol that will allow us to use data to drive our instructional processes. We will continue our work in making all of our practices, including grading, standards and performance based. Although our Continuous School Improvement Plan priority areas this year are Reading/ELA and Math, we will also begin our work towards STEM certification. Our grades 3-5 students will participate in Science Fair this year. Finally, we will continue to tap into the extracurricular interests of our students through clubs, teams and organizations, as we know it is important to access the “whole” child.

As Principal, I want to remind each of you that my door is always open and I welcome your input. Again, it will take all of us to be successful in our mission of meeting each of our students where they are and providing opportunities for them to demonstrate growth. Everyone’s ideas and suggestions are valuable and encouraged as we move into and through this school year.

The first day of school is Monday, August 7, 2017. Students will need to be at school and in class at 7:30 a.m. daily for optimal success. As always, the Browns Mill Staff is at your service. We are looking forward to working with you and your child/children this school year.
